Susana Gaudêncio
Susana Gaudêncio creates intricate drawings, photo-montages and animations, made by altering found footage and imagery. This involves a cyclical transformation, from the digital source-footage, to the physical print-out, and back again. It collapses the space between otherwise disparate processes and addresses the tensions between political reality, and expressive illusion.

Lives and works in Lisbon and New York.
Susana Gaudêncio has a College degree in painting from the Faculty of Fine Arts, University of Lisbon. She has a Master in Fine Arts from Hunter College, City University of New York, sponsored by Calouste Gulbenkian and Luso-American Foundations trough their Specialization and Professional Valorization Grant in the United States.
She has had solo exhibitions at CAV (Visual Arts Centre), Coimbra, in Espaço A/C and Galeria Pedro Cera – Mnemonica de Lugares in Lisbon, participated in group exhibitions in Holland, Barcelona, New York and Liverpool. Gaudêncio was part of the exhibition Portuguese Artists - Outside at the Electricity Museum. In January 2009, she inaugurated two solo exhibitions, Blocking at Carlos Carvalho Contemporary Art Gallery in Lisbon and Houyhnhnm at the ISE Foundation in New York City. Her work will be part of ResPublica an exhibition curated by Leonor Nazaré and Helena Freitas at the Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation - Modern Art Center.
Since February 2010 she is an Guest Assistant Professor at the School of Art and Design, IPL -Leiria Polytechnic Institute in Caldas da Rainha.
