Jorge Silva Marques

The process as a starting and ending point. [An exploration of] drawing through process will be the 4th Drawing Lesson hosted by Drawing Spaces. During this presentation, Jorge Silva Marques will aim to discuss two simple ideas: ‘(1) that there is a kind of drawing which occurs in a close relationship with its process and that reveals itself simultaneously to this process; (2) that this kind of drawing occurs from “non focused processes” (processes that do not focus objectively and exclusively on the practice of perceptive drawing).’ In order to develop this line of enquiry Jorge Silva Marques will argue that it is necessary to ‘look for the existence of symptoms (Goodman) in drawing that provide evidences or properties of its process.


CV

Jorge Silva Marques is an Artist and Researcher. He is also a Lecturer at the School of Fine Arts, University of Oporto. In 1996 he graduated in Fine Art: Painting, hosted by the School of Fine Arts, Oporto. In 2005 he co-organized and curated the exhibition “100 Drawings: friction, impression, dilution”, at Maus hábitos, Oporto and Convento de Corpus Christi, V. N. Gaia (Portugal). In 2006, his examination for pedagogic and scientific skills was successfully approved with the submitted essay: “The images of drawing. Spatial perception and representation”. In 2008 he delivered a Talk under the title “Drawing and process are the same”, during the presentation of the project Superficial # 2.1, Estúdio UM, at School of Architecture, University of Minho. In this same year he started a PhD under the provisional title: “The experience of drawing and the possibility of its transposition. Drawing and unfocused processes.”
