Carlos Nogueira

Carlos Nogueira (1947), Visual Artist/Sculptor. He works in the field of three-dimensionality, exploring relations of permeability between contemporary sculpture and architecture. His oeuvre promotes the crisscrossing of the guiding principles behind both subjects – thus creating a space where the two reinvent themselves, broadening their operative range.

His projects focus on relationships with the place, bringing the spectator into a performative position, through which the piece and its surroundings (both symbiotically inhabited) mutually enrich their meanings.

A Guest Associate Teacher at the Architecture Department of Universidade Autónoma de Lisboa and at Lisbon’s Colégio Moderno, Carlos Nogueira sees the research and conception processes, usually confined to project areas, as integral parts of the piece. That project-based aspect of his work is also visible in his drawings and various artist’s books.
