João Dias/Joa Gridfonte
Born in Lisbon, Portugal 1983. Degree in Fine Art: Painting by the Faculty of Fine Arts University of Lisbon. Participated in various collective and solo exhibitions, such as: “Living Draw” Berlin, “Inside Drawing” Lisbon, “Espaço Arriscado” “Risky Space” Mestre José Rodrigues Cultural Center. His work has been represented at the Lisbon Contemporary Art Fair from 2007 to 2009. His work received the Gold Medal– Duke of Edinburgh's Award. In 2008 and 2009 he delivered seminars at the Faculty of Fine Art University of Lisbon for the Masters Degree Course about drawing as a creative process, and about his two-dimensional and three-dimensional work on drawing.
Drawing is the base of his work, which can be take shape through several media such as paint, drawing, sculpture, installation, photography, film and performance.
In 2008 he started using the name Joa Gridfonte for installation, photography, video and performance works.
He has kept the name Joao Dias for more traditional works as painting, drawing and sculpture.
João Dias/Joa Gridfonte lives and works between Lisbon and Berlin.
Developed and produced several Performances resulting on site-specific installations and short-films and these have been presented in Lisbon and Berlin.
Started working with Abraham Hurtado and Vania Rovisco on the Projects Bridge on a Wall, and AADK since May 2008, under the INOV-ART Grant Program (International Internships for qualified youth in Cultural or Artistic domains).
He recently developed a project between drawing and performance with Abraham Hurtado and is working on a project between drawing and sound with Didio Pestana.
His latest work derives from an altered film camera, turning this film camera into a plastic tool. He is currently developing a film in Berlin with this camera.
